Historically black rice was only cultivated in China for its Emperor and his court due to its nutritional and aphrodisiac properties, giving it the name ‘Forbidden rice’. Today it is cultivated in specific areas of the Po Valley in Italy. This pleasantly aromatic, black wholemeal rice cooks in 40 minutes. It is delicious as a side dish for fish or meat.
