Originally a restaurant, The Carved Angel was founded in 1974 in Dartmouth, Devon, by Joyce Molyneux. The Carved Angel always championed the finest local ingredients, with Joyce being the first female chef in Britain to be awarded a Michelin star.
During this time, Joyce discovered a Christmas pudding recipe by Victorian chef, Eliza Acton. The resulting pudding was moist, not overly sweet, and beautifully balanced with stem ginger and nutmeg, succulent fruit and brandy. This delighted Joyce’s diners when it appeared on her festive menu, with many requests to purchase the puddings to follow. The Carved Angel puddings grew to become a standalone business, soon garnering cult status.
