Akrille Nero d'Avola Sicilia DOC

750ml
$39.90

A superb example of Sicilian Nero d'Avola (Sicily's most important red wine grape variety). Intense ruby-red in colour, it displays a well balanced body with lively and sweet tannins, ending with fruity notes of berry and cherry.

Description

Intense ruby-red in colour, Akrille Nero d'Avola presents fruity notes to the nose, with hints of plum and morello cherry coming through. The body of the wine offers warmth, well balanced with lively and sweet tannins, ending with pleasent hints of berry and cherry.

The grapes are harvested between the last ten days of September and the first ten days of October, when very ripe, and are selected in the vineyard. Akrille Nero d'Avola undergoes a red vinification, with a maceration on the skins for about 10-15 days in steel tanks at a controlled temperature between 25 and 28 degrees celsius. This is followed by maturation in steel for about 6 months, after which the wine is bottled and left to refine in the bottle for about four months.

Akrille Nero d'Avola is an ideal match with roast beef, meaty casseroles and braises. We recommend a serving temperature between 16 and 18 degrees celsius.

Producer

The Cutrera family (from whom we also source exceptional extra virgin olive oils) and Bastianich family, with a history of friendship and collaboration spanning more than 30 years, come together to produce Akrille - a superb selection of sicilian wines.

Their vineyards, which are organically farmed, are located in the Iblei Mountains, alongside centuries-old olive trees. Their history in this area dates back to the late 19th century when the Cutrera family owned one of the most important wine-presses in the area. Akrille cultivate vineyards at an altitude of 500-600 metres where a wild and stony volcanic terrain, that had not been previously cultivated, provides a unique climate gives Akrille's wines freshness, flavour and an imimitable identity.
