The Meyer Gouda Cheese story began in a tiny village in the South of the Netherlands, where Ben and Fieke Meyer built a small cheese factory in the hay shed on Ben’s parents farm, making their first batch of farmhouse Gouda in 1976 and soon gaining a loyal following among the locals. After moving to New Zealand in 1984, they set up their home and cheese production in Cambridge.
Meyer Gouda Cheese is now a fully-fledged family affair with the next generation at the helm. Miel took over as general manager of Meyer Gouda Cheese after Ben and Fieke retired in 2007. They are one of the most significantly awarded companies in New Zealand, picking up Supreme Champion at the first New Zealand Cheese Awards in 1994 and a string of awards since.
