Pruno Ribera del Duero 2022

750ml
$39.90

The best Spanish wine in history for under $20 USD, according to Robert Parker, comes from Finca Villacreces, located in the heart of the Ribera del Duero, with its poor and contrasting soils, bathed by the Duero river. This wine is made from 94% Tempranillo, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Merlot, it is aged for 10 months in a combination of 2 and 3 year old French and American oak, it is a wonderfully concentrated and structured wine and is exceptional value for money.

Description

Intense aroma reminiscent of roasted cocoa and coffee caramel and notes of balsamic, against a background of red cherries and blueberries all underpinned by elegant minerality. In the mouth it is fleshy, with excellent structure. A full-bodied wine with good volume on the palate, perfectly integrated ripe tannins and a great amount of fruit and maturity. Complex persistence on the finish, marked by notes of dark choolate and balsamic hints of black liquorice. A wine that invites you to drink.

Producer

Described by Robert Parker as “the hidden jewel of Ribera del Duero”, Finca Villacreces lies at the heart of the Ribera del Duero DO along its famed “golden mile” in Quintanilla de Onésimo, neighbouring icons such as Vega Sicilia and Pingus.

Acquired by the Antón family in 2003, the 64-hectare estate sits at 735 metres above sea level and is farmed according to principles of integrated viticulture. A complex mix of sand, gravel, shingle and quartz soils naturally limits yields to around three tonnes per hectare, producing fruit of notable intensity and precision. Sandy soils lend suppleness and depth, while quartz and shingle contribute structure and mineral complexity, resulting in wines of concentration, focus and strong site expression.
