About Us

Welcome to Sabato

Since 1993 we have been sourcing fine foods primarily from Italy, Spain and France. Most of our suppliers are small (often family run) businesses who use traditional methods of production to create outstanding products. We regularly travel to Europe to check product quality, collect information on trends and source new interesting products/suppliers. As a result, Sabato has been first to introduce many key ingredients to the New Zealand market, such as La Chinata smoked paprika, Calogiuri Vincotto, El Navarrico piquillo pimientos and Valrhona chocolate, and we enjoy continuing to make exciting additions to the range.

Our Store

Sabato supplies many of the great restaurants and fine food stockists throughout New Zealand.  Our store is located at 57 Normanby Road, Mt Eden and is open 7 days a week.

Meet our team

Jacqui Watt

Jacqui Watt - National Sales & Marketing Manager

Jacqui has been with Sabato since 2007. As National Sales and Marketing Manager she heads both our marketing and sales teams who look after retailers and restaurants around the country. Jacqui likes to use our Montanari Parmigiano Reggiano  and our Giusti Riccardo balsamic as a finishing touch for many dishes. 

Calum Hodgson - Cheesemonger

Calum joined the team in 2014 as our dedicated cheesemonger, selecting and caring for our range of cheeses. Calum works with restaurants and retailers to ensure all they are getting what’s tasting best each season and that our cheese gets to the customer in top condition. Calum loves all things fermented, with a promiscuous bias towards the washed rind family of stinky cheeses.

Andy Gladding - National Foodservice and Distribution Account Manager

Andy has come from a strong hospitality background. He brings a wealth knowledge from this industry having been the head Sommelier at The French Café for a number of years. Andy loves our Calasparra Rice and is a big fan of Forvm Chardonnay vinegar.

Stuart Bicknell - Account Manager - Foodservice & Distribution

Stuart also comes from a strong hospitality background and has many years cheffing experience working at Hallertau Brewery and Eat my Lunch. His favourite products are the Tutto Gusto Crema Tartufata and Alejandro Chorizo Picante.

Hayley Emery - National Retail Account Manager

Hayley, a qualified chef and trained chocolatier returns to Sabato after a 15 year hiatus. With over 25 years’ experience in the food industry from the kitchen hotline to owning her own chocolate business she is absolutely mad about good food and wants to get it into everyone’s hands. Her all-time favourite chocolate is Valrhona Manjari chocolate  and Hayley uses Forvm Cabernet Sauvignon vinegar  with Colonna mandarin infused extra virgin olive oil  as her favourite quick ‘simple yet gorgeous’ summer dressing.





Grace Moore - Trade Sales Administrator 

Grace comes from a communications and hospitality background and has spent the last few years in Italy. Her favourite products are marinated white anchovies  drizzled with Forvm Chardonnay vinegar and Rustichella bucatini  with Pedrazzoli smoked pancetta and fresh free range eggs - the most delicious carbonara ever!

Claire Metcalf - Receptionist

Claire came to Sabato with a love of the finer things in life - most importantly, food! Claire is a big fan of our Julie Le Clerc Arabian date chutney  and Evansdale Tania smoked brie  and will never turn down a square of Valrhona Dulcey chocolate . Claire is, most often, the welcoming voice at the end of the phone, happy to answer any of your foodie enquiries.

Neil Schultz – Retail Store Manager

Neil came to Sabato with a particular interest in cooking experimental dishes. His specialties include home-cured bacon, La Chinata paprika jelly and squid ink bagels! You’ll often find Neil behind our cheese counter, helping customers with their cheese selections. Gruyère is one of his firm favourites.
