Laguiole is the name given to the style of cutlery manufactured in the Aveyron region of Southern France, bearing the signature bee. Local legend has it that the bee symbol represents the imperial seal of Napoleon Bonaparte, which was offered to the Laguiole town as a token of his gratitude for the men's courage during battle.
The original pocketknife design dates from the early 19th century, based on a farmer's knife from the Laguiole village. In 1829 Jean-Pierre designed and made knives with the forged bee being the distinctive mark. Following this colourful tradition, Laguiole-style cutlery, corkscrews, cheese implements and pocketknives are today manufactured in Thiers and small artisan production still thrives in Laguiole.
The Laguiole cutlery sold by Sabato is from Coutellerie Neron, a third-generation manufacturer considered one of the best knife manufacturers in France. This authentic Laguiole cutlery, masterfully crafted from high grade 18/10 stainless steel, is stamped, ground and then polished. Each handle features the trademark bee, reinforced stainless steel bolsters, five-rivet construction and reinforced handles made from polypropylene resin for extra durability and maintenance-free use. Each item includes a certificate of authenticity and is dishwasher safe, on the top shelf.
